Philosophy

Michael Browne Ltd. strives to create clothes that transcend the traditional definitions of bespoke tailoring. The house creates clothes that combine a couture approach to design with a tailor’s attention to proportion, fit and construction.

Every garment begins life as a conversation. Michael will sit with the customer to understand something of his tastes and the requirements of his clothes prior to taking on a commission. The aim is to design collaboratively with clients, to guide them gently toward something which will suit their needs, be flattering and comfortable to wear. There is no pre-prepared formula and no set way of doing things. This is a personal experience, not to be rushed.

The house cuts and makes with precision, incorporating technical innovations that have been developed through years of experimentation. Michael cuts, fits and oversees the make of every garment himself, relying only on his chosen team of highly-skilled tailors for support.

The making process benefits from the luxury of time. The house will fit, rip-down and re-cut a commission as many times as is necessary to achieve the perfect garment and Michael attends every fitting in person. Clients can be sure of a close personal relationship and that no clothes will leave the workshop until both tailor and customer are completely satisfied.

Building a long-term relationship with clients is important and the house enjoys working with customers that are passionate about good clothes. The overall look of a Micheal Browne outfit is just as important as the finished suit and Michael can advise on shirts, accessories and shoes accordingly, helping clients to curate a wardrobe that works for them. The house’s style is architectural, modern and represents couture tailoring at its most relevant.
